Vinyl Me, Please announced Betty Davis’ 1973 debut album as their ROTM. Many deep funk connections are linked to Betty Davis so I decided to make a show of it. Six Degrees is really only 1 or 2 where it concerns the artists and albums which were directly influenced her. VMP made this neat interactive site which traces Betty Davis’ musical family tree, VJ Live went a step further by showing you the albums and telling you the stories behind the links. NEW ARRIVALS/ VINYL REVIEWS
3 new arrivals this week:
- Ex Eye is Colin Stetson’s saxophone metal project with Greg Fox on drum destruction duty. Painkiller comparisons abound, in the best possible way.
- Cameron Graves’ Planetary Prince. Wow. I go on about it some more and connect some more West Coast Get Down dots. Kamasi, Kendrick, Flylo and Thundercat get their obvious due but Planetary Prince is the album that’s got me focused on how mind shatteringly good a drummer Ronald Bruner Jr. is.
- John Williams’ iconic score to Raiders Of The Lost Ark has been expanded to a 2 lp set with gatefold jacket, with over 30 minutes of new audio cues not available on the original 1981 release. 180-gram vinyl, cut by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman, pressed at RTI (Record Technology Incorporated) The good stuff.
Plus, VJ weekly news and updates and a podcast wishlist. Working hard at getting you some unique content, fingers crossed.
